What are some ways to stick with your financial plan?
I hope you find this maddeningly simple; it should be.
- Automate, automate, automate. Use EFT through your checking account to make automatic monthly deposits. The less you have to do after the initial decision the better. An object in motion tends to stay in motion. If you have to make a good decision every single month, you’ll screw it up eventually.
- Set reminders on your smartphone. Every month; are you sticking with your budget? Are you saving and investing systematically? Are you paying off debt? We need reminders to keep us on track.
- Pick a good accountability partner. You probably know someone who would also like to get more financially organized. Make it fun. Combine monthly check ins with wine night. If you make it fun, you’ll both be more likely to stick with it.
I could go on but you get the point. Simple but effective is the answer. Good luck! You won’t need luck if you automate and find a good accountability partner.
